October 24, 2023 - At A Crossroads: The Dual Threat of Black Maternal Mortality & Chronic Disease

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Dr. Akilah Weber, Assemblymember for California's 79th Assembly District, and the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease hosted an in-depth conversation about Black maternal health, challenges posed by health disparities, and how chronic diseases further exasperate the problem. As San Diego County Black infants are nearly three times more likely to die during their first year of life and 60% more likely to be born premature, the conversation focused on efforts to reduce Black infant deaths, empower women, and raise community awareness to support improved health among Black mothers and babies.
